“But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” – 1 John 2:5-6
These words are so beautiful, yet so convicting. If you’ve spent any time reading the Bible, listening to sermons or watching the show The Chosen, you’ll know that Jesus’ life on earth was characterized by service and love for others.
Yet in my humanness, I often fall short in serving others, loving them or showing them grace. Why? Because it’s not a natural response. Our sinful world tells us to prioritize ourselves over others — to meet our needs before even thinking about lending a hand to help someone else.
But that’s not the life we’re called to in Christ. Obedience isn’t giving up our freedom.. this verse tells us that it’s the means to which God’s love is made complete in us! Obedience leads to wholeness – to true and genuine love.
We’ll never be perfect.. that’s why Jesus came in the first place! But man, to enter the gates of heaven and hear “well done, my good and faithful servant”.. it’ll all be worth it.
